Stay safe: Call before you dig

A new deck, fence or tree can make your house look great. But could they cause a safety issue?

Unsafe digging by homeowners and contractors damages gas lines and puts lives in danger. In fact, August is the peak month when people damage gas lines.

Don't take a gamble: call 811.

It’s a free service, it’s easy and it’s the law. Call at least two business days in advance. Columbia Gas and other utilities will mark lines so you can dig safely. Learn more.

Call before you:

  • Plant a tree
  • Install a fence
  • Build a deck
  • Do any digging

Hiring a contractor? Make sure they call 811. Don't take chances with your safety.
