Aged Veteran Responds to the Final Summons
The Daily Reporter, December 24, 1913
Caleb Berry, aged 74, died at his home on the corner of Mulberry and Fifth Streets Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 following an illness from a complication of diseases which extended over a period of several weeks. He had been bedfast for the last two weeks of his life and owing to his advanced age the end was not unexpected.
Mr. Berry was a veteran of the Civil War enlisting from his home which at that time was at Mt. Vernon, the place of his birth. After the war he was united in marriage to Margaret Clough of Coshocton, OH. She and three sons and six daughters survive.
Mr. Berry was a retired farmer and member of the local order of Masons and the G.A.R. He was recognized as a man of sterling character, honest and industrious and always willing to help his fellowman in time of need. His absence will be deeply felt in both local organizations of which he was a loyal member.
Three sons, James, Joseph and Harvey of this city and six daughters, Mrs. Ambrose Wright of Pittsburgh, PA, Mrs. James Chamberlain, of Kansas, Mrs. John Latham of Coshocton, OH, Mrs. George Leighton of Coshocton, OH, Miss Gladys Berry and Miss Sadie Berry of the home survive. One brother Joseph Berry of Brownell, KS, also survives.
Funeral arrangements were not made late Wednesday.
